German coach Bruno Labbadia has reportedly turned down the offer to become the new coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria days after the Nigeria Football Federation announced his appointment.
The football body had earlier announced the appointment of the seasoned German coach on its X page on Tuesday.
Reports in German now suggest that Bruno Labbadia has halted talks with the football federation after contract talks stalled.
According to Nigerian journalist Adepoju Tobi Samuel, the plan was to have the technical director of the federation, Austin Eguavoen manage the Super Eagles on the interim ahead of the AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda next month.
However, NFF announced Bruno Labbadia as the new coach while Austin Eguavoen was in Belgium to outsource two assists to help him manage the two games according to Adepoj Tobi Samuel.
The Nigeria Football Federation find themselves in in a tight corner with about 7 days to the start of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will take on Benin Republic on September 7 at the Goodwill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo and Rwanda in Kigali three days later.
