Suepr Falcons coach Randy Waldrum has resigned from his role as coach of Nigeria women’s senior football team, the Super Falcons.
Randy Waldrum announced his resignation in a very lengthy letter dated September 12th, 2024 where he cited the reason for his leaving the role.
According to the his letter, he decided to resign his appointment due to the health issues his wife is currently facing.
“It’s been a very difficult few weeks following the Olympics, with my wife’s health issues, and the worries that obviously come with that. After much thought and consideration, I am hereby resigning my position as Head Coach of the Super Falcons. This will allow the NFF ample time to find the next manager to take over this incredible squad.”
Randy Waldrum was appointed the coach of the Super Falcons on October 5, 2020, three years after he turned down the role.
The American coach led the nine-time African champions to a disappointing fourth place finish at the 2022 Africa Women’s Championship in Morocco.
He was also in charge of the team the 2023 Women’s World Cup. The team had a decent performance as they finished the group stage undefeted for the very first time.
However, the Super Falcons lost 4-2 on penalties to finalist, England as they crashed out of the competition in the second round.
Waldrum’s last engagement with the team was at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris where the team had a poor performance loaing all three group stage matches to Brazil, Japan and reigning world champions Spain.
