The Super Eagles of Nigeria earned a slim but well-deserved victory over the Mediterranean Knights of Libya on matchday 3 of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
It was a dominant display from Austin Eguavoen’s men on the night as they controlled the match from start to finish.
The Super Eagles created plethora of chances in the one-sided affair but Libya’s goalie Al Wuheeshi made countless saves to keep his side in the match.
Samuel Chukwueze came very close to breaking the deadlock after the restart but the AC Milan forward failed to capitalize.
Ademola Lookaman thought he had given the Super Eagles the opening goal after he was played theough by Chukwueze but his goal was wrongfully adjudged as offside for the second time in the series.
However, the defense of the Libyans was eventually broken by the goal of Fisayo Dele-Bashiru on the 87th minute.
Dele-Bashiru who came on as a second half substitute lashed on to Moses Simon’s cross into the box to give the Super Eagles the win over the vistors.
The Super Eagles maintain their spot on top of Group D with 7 points after three matches in the series.
Tge return fixture against the Libyans will hold on Tuesday, October 15 at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi.
