Osimhen Scores As Galatasaray Secure Europa League Playoff Spot

Victor Osimhen found the net once again in the Europa League, but his goal wasn’t enough to prevent Galatasaray from falling to a 2-1 defeat against Ajax on Thursday night.

The Super Eagles number 9 struck in added time, pouncing on a rebound to pull one back for his side.

Galatasaray still secured a spot in the Europa League playoffs regardless of the loss.

Osimhen was quite lively throughout the match, linking up well with his teammates and registering a shot on target before eventually finding the back of the net.

Ajax took the lead in the 23rd minute through Burkina Faso’s forward Bertrand Traoré’s rebound, who reacted quickest to Chuba Akpom’s shot.

Galatasaray had their chances in the first half, recording three shots on target, but couldn’t convert any.

Osimhen came close to equalizing in the 18th minute when he connected with a Barış Yılmaz cross, but his header sailed just over the bar.

The Dutch side doubled their advantage early in the second half when Kian Fitz-Jim found himself unmarked in the box.

He controlled a well-placed pass before firing a shot past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

Galatasaray pushed hard to get back into the game, but Ajax goalkeeper Remko Pasveer pulled off a brilliant save to deny Gabriel Sara’s shot from range.

Osimhen’s late goal gave Galatasaray a glimmer of hope, but it was too late to ignite a comeback.

Ajax and Galatasaray finished with 13 points and advanced to the Europa League playoffs.

Osimhen ends the league phase of the Europa League with 5 goals and an assist in six matches for Galatasaray.
