NPFL: Remo Shines Brightest In Battle Of The Stars As Title Chase Intensify

Remo Stars edged Sunshine Stars in the Southwest Derby in quite commanding display on Saturday evening.

The league leaders were the “away” side but felt at home as the match was played in front of their home fans.

Alex Oyowah put the Remo Stars ahead with a sumptuous diving header nine minutes into the match.

Ibrahim Abubakar off a well-timed pass from captain of the side Nduka Junior, lobbed the goalkeeper to double the lead.

Remo Stars dominated proceedings but with limited chances for most part of the second half.

Samuel Matthew’s goal in the 67th minute put the Daniel Ogunmodede’s boys under a bit of pressure as Sunshine Stars sought for an equalizer.

However, the Sky Blue Stars kept their shape with the introduction of midfielders Michael Ibe and Abdulrasaq Shuaibu who helped see out the match.

The win consolidated Remo Stars stay on top of the Nigeria Premier Football League table with 45 points after 22 matches.

Remo Stars lead second-placed Shooting Stars by nine points. Although the latter have two games at hand as the race to become champions intensify.

Defending champions Enugu Rangers are currently 6th with 31 points after 21 matches.
