Breaking! Favour Ofili dumps Nigeria For Turkey After Double Olympics Heartbreaks

Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili has reportedly switched her allegiance from Nigeria to Turkey following the 2024 Paris Olympic Games debacle.

The 22-year-old sprinter started the process on May 31st according to reports.

Ofili missed out on competing in the 100m event at the Paris Olympics after the Athletics Federation of Nigeria failed to register her despite qualifying.

An investigative panel, led by veteran journalist, Dr. Mumini Alao was set by the former Minister of Sports, Senator John Enoh to find out the event that led to the omission of Ofili’s name.

The panel has since concluded and submitted its findings and recommendations to the recently-appointed Chairman of the Nigeria Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko.

In 2021, Favour Ofili missed the Tokyo Olympics 200m evet after AFN & NADC failed to get her tested in time which also affected 13 other athletes.

Reports say Turkey is offering each athlete willingly to represent the country $500,000, performance and camp allowances.

Favour Ofili impressed the Athletics Integrity Unit of her decision to switch is not influenced by the financial incentives.

The 22-year-old holds a personal best times of 10.93secs and 21.96secs in the 100m and 200m, respectively.

Favour ofili’s switch comes following her frustrations with the board of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria who got re-elected this June.
