WAFCON 2025: Babajide-inspired Falcons brush aside Tunisia in Group B opener

Rinsola Babjide was the star of the match as the Super Falcons started their “Mission X” campaign on a winning note.

The 27-year-old winger was impressive as the Super Falcons brushed aside Tunisia on Sunday evening in thw first match of Group B.

Babajide’s brilliant cross into the box from a free-kick came off Asisat Oshoala four minutes into the match.

The Super Falcons were quite wasteful in front of goal in the early exchanges as they struggled to convert their chances.

However, a resilient Rinsola Babjide made a dashing run into the box before before releasing a ferocious shot into bottom left-corner.

Her goal gave the Super Falcons a two-goal lead into the break as the Tunisians struggled to match the quality of their opposition.

The second half was better than the first after coach Justin Madugu made changes in the midfield and attack.

The video assistant referee chalked off Tunisia’s claim for a penalty after Osinachi Ohale appeared to have contact with Salma Zemzem in the box.

Chiamaka Nnadozie was called into action for the first time in the game as she pulled off a save from a shot in the box.

Esther Okoronkwo made significant impact as she provided the assist for Chiwendu Ihezuo who added the third in six minutes from time.

Salma Zemzem came close to grabbing a consolation late in the tie but her long range strike beat Nnadozie but came off the bar.

The match ended in 3-0 as the Super Falcons go top of Ground B with three points and a clean sheet.
