Rivers United leave DR Congo unscathed as Petro Atletico, Police FC and Orlando Pirates record big wins away

Rivers United held Les Aigles du Congo to a goalless draw in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round.

The Nigeria Premier Football League side were resolute in defense as stopped the Congolese champions scoring.

Rivers United will look to get a win over the Congolese side in the second leg of the tie which will see them play in the penultimate round of the CAF Champions League.

The Pride of Rivers have never qualified for the group stage of the CAF Champions League after three previous attempts.

In other results, Petro Atletico Luanda took a big step towards qualifying for the second round of the preliminary round.

The Angolan side demolished Mauritius’ Cercle De Joachim 3-0 away from home.

Benny Dias and Thiago Dias scored in the first half while Matheus scored the only goal in the second to give the Petro Atletico a massive advantage ahead of the second leg.

Kenyan champions, Police FC also took a massive ad advantage ahead of the second leg as they recorded 3-1 win over Mogadishu City.

Edward Zakayo opener in the 15th minute and two second half goals from Edward Omondo and David Simiyu gave the vistsors a 3-1 win.

Somali midfielder Marsis equalized minutes into the second half but the Kenyan side responded twice to take a two-goal advantage ahead of the second leg in Nairobi.

South Africa side Orlando Pirates also has an impressive outing as the Sea Robbers demolished Lesotho side Lioli in the first leg.

The second leg of the CAF Champions League first preliminary round will hold next weekend.
