
Rivers United will know their CAF Champions League group stage opponents next week as the sole representative of Nigeria on the continent.
The Pride of Rivers booked their spot in the group stage of the competition for the first time after a 3-2 aggregate win over Mozambique’s Black Bulls on Saturday.
Wasiu Falolu and Maclyn Biokpo gave Rivers United a comfortable 2-0 half-time lead before Moctar Diallo’s header a few minutes into the second half swung the tie in favour of the visitors.
With fifteen minutes left on the clock, Timothy Zachariah’s strike sent Rivers United into the group stage of the competition.
According to CAF, the draw for the group will take place on Monday, 3 November, at SuperSport Studios in Johannesburg at 14:00 SA time (1 pm Nigerian time).
The 14 teams that have qualified for the group stage of the competition include MC Alger (Algeria), Petro de Luanda (Angola), Simba (Tanzania), Stade Malien (Mali), Power Dynamos (Zambia), Al-Hilal Omdurman (Sudan), Young Africans (Tanzania) St. Éloi Lupopo (DR Congo), Al Ahly (Egypt), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Rivers United (Nigeria), Esperance Tunis (Tunisia), AS FAR Rabat (Morocco), and JS Kabylie (Algeria.
The two remaining berths will be decided next week when Pyramids FC and RS Berkane play their postponed second-leg fixtures.
