Reigning champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League, Remo Stars, have dismissed rumours that their head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, is on the verge of leaving the club.
The Sky Blue Stars have endured a poor start to their title defense this season, and their recent ouster in the CAF Champions League penultimate round qualifier against Mamelodi Sundowns fueled the rumours.
Daniel Ogunmodede’s absence in recent Remo Stars matches also contributed to the rumour of his reported intention to leave the club.
While some reported that the coach is planning to resign, others say the club has reached a consensus to fire the 45-year-old coach, who also serves as one of the assistants to Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle.
However, in a statement published on the official X page of the club on Wednesday, Daniel Ogunmodede remains an integral part of Remo Stars as the management led by its Executive Chairman, Hon. Kunle Soname, dismissed the claim.
According to the statement, Ogunmodede is observing his CAF B license training in Abuja, and he is expected back this weekend.
Press Release
Remo Stars Football Club wishes to clarify that our head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, remains an integral part of our technical crew and continues to serve as the head coach of Remo Stars FC.
Daniel is presently attending a CAF B coaching course in Abuja as part of his continuous professional development and commitment to personal and technical growth.
He will also continue his national assignment with the Nigeria national team, as the country prepares for the crucial FIFA World Cup African play-offs, the potential intercontinental play-off, and the Africa Cup of Nations later this year.
We firmly believe this is a period that calls for collective national support and dedication to the success of Nigerian football.
He remains a valued and vital member of the Remo Stars family, and we eagerly look forward to his successful completion of these national and personal engagements.
Daniel Ogunmodede led Remo Stars to their first-ever league title last season – a historic moment for the club.
However, the defending champions are currently struggling in the league and have gone four matches without a win in all competitions.
