Nigeria’s Super Eagles might be without one of their key players ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The three-time Champions are going to be without talented 20-year-old defender Benjamin Fredrick who is nursing a knee injury.
Stanley Nwabali, the first choice goalkeeper, could also be out of the competition which starts on December 21.
The Chippa United goalkeeper is reported to be suffering from an ankle and hand injury according to reports.
Nwabali is yet to stand in between the sticks for Chipoa United since returning to the club after the Super Eagles missed out on qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
Chippa United head coach, Visumuzu Vilakazi says Nwabali assured him he would recover just in time for the AFCON even though the South African coach shares a different opinion.
“I don’t think he (Nwabali) will make it (to AFCON). But when I was talking to him, he was confident that he will recover very soon”
Stanley Nwabali made his debut with the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire where he helped the team reach the final of the competition.
However, the 29-year-old has come under criticisms owing to his carefree performance in recent matches.
While he remains the first choice, there have been calls for him to be dropped to the bench ahead of the tournament.
