NIGERIA VERSUS TANZANIA…..
DID YOU KNOW that the most popular staple food in Tanzania is UGALI, a porridge made from maize flour, like Nigeria’s own Eba and Amala are made from cassava and yam flour. And, like our own swallows, too, UGALI is eaten with hands to scoop stews and greens like Mchicha (spinach) or Sukuma Wiki (collard greens), equivalents of Nigeria’s own Efo riro (vegetable soup) or Edikang Ikong with assorted meat. Other popular Tanzanian cuisines are Nyama Choma (grilled goat or beef) and Pilau (rice cooked with spices) like Nigeria’s own Jollof Rice.

Tanzania good omen for Super Eagles
The 2025 AFCON fixture pairing Nigeria to face Tanzania in the opening match of Group ‘C’ at the Complexe Sportif de Fes in Morocco bodes well for the Super Eagles. When Nigeria faced the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in their opening game of the 1980 AFCON held in Lagos, the then Green Eagles captained by ‘Chairman’ Christian Chukwu won 3-1 on 8 March, 1980 and proceeded from there to win the AFCON trophy for the first time. Nigeria’s goal scorers against Tanzania were Muda Lawal, Ifeanyi Onyeadika and ‘Mathematical’ Segun Odegbami.
