Victor Osimhen was overwhelmed with emotion as he appreciated the Galatasaray fans for honoring his late mother just before the Champions League round of 16 first-leg fixture against Liverpool at Rams Park on Tuesday evening.
Fans of the Turkish club put out large tifos of Osimhen and his mother alongside his young daughter, Hailey, before kick-off against the six-time European champions.
Osimhen shed tears on seeing the tifos as he covered his face, as he was overwhelmed with the warm gesture from the home fans in the packed Rams Park Stadium.
After the match, Osimhen thanked the Galatasaray fans and, while addressing the media, pledged his loyalty to the club.
“Tonight was emotional for me as I struggled to hold back my tears. Seeing this show of love from Galatasaray fans honestly is something I will never forget for the rest of my life.” “From the first day I arrived, you welcomed me with so much love and respect, not only me but also my family and the people close to me.” “Moments like this remind me that football is bigger than just the game. It is love, loyalty and unity.” “I promise to continue fighting for this badge, this club, and these amazing fans with everything I have everytime I step on this pitch. Thank you for making tonight unforgettable.” “We are family.”
Victor Osimhen had a brilliant outing on the night as he provided the assist to Mario Lemina’s goal that gave Galatasaray the slim win over Liverpool. Osimhen had the ball in the back of the net in the second half, but his goal was ruled out for offside.
