
Enugu Rangers are the new NPFL champions as they clinched the title over Rivers United on the final day of the season after an impressive win away at Ikorodu City.
The Flying Antelopes needed a win to secure the title over Rivers United who were hoping for a favour from the hosts.
However, Enugu Rangers started the game with great determination and took the lead after the half-hour mark.
The 22-year-old midfielder revived a through pass, ran towards goal before unleashing a left-footed strike into the roof of the net.
Nwobodo pushed Rangers closer to the title as he doubled the lead a few minutes after the break to put Fidelis Ilechukwu’s men in firm control of the game at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
Moses Bada gave the home fans a glimmer of hope for a comeback as he halved the deficit before the hour mark.
However, the Flying Antelopes held their lead till the blast of the final whistle to win their ninth title.
Meanwhile, former champions Remo Stars survived relegation after a 1-0 win away at Bendel Insurance, while Shooting Stars, courtesy of Rangers, will play in the CAF Confederation Cup, returning to the continent for the first time since 1999.
Rivers United missed out on the title by a point despite their 3-0 win over Katsina United in Port Harcourt.
