Kano Pillars Appoint Ogunmodede as New Technical Adviser

Kano Pillars have appointed Daniel Ogunmodede as their new Technical Adviser ahead of the 2026/2027 Nigeria Premier Football League season.

The club confirmed the news via their official X account, @pillarsfc, on Friday, with the statement reading in part: “We’ve reached an agreement to appoint Daniel Ogunmodede (Ijaball) as our new Technical Adviser ahead of the 2026/2027 football season.”

Ogunmodede, popularly known as “Ijaball,” joins after ending a remarkable 13-year association with Remo Stars, where he guided the club to its first-ever NPFL title in the 2024/25 season.

Remo Stars suffered relegation the following campaign under Usman Ab’dallah, finishing 17th with 47 points to become the first NPFL champions in history to go down the season after winning the title. The 46-year-old Ogunmodede will sign a two-year contract with Kano Pillars, replacing Muhammad Babaganaru at the Sai Masu Gida.

The appointment follows weeks of speculation, with Enyimba also reportedly interested in his services. The move comes shortly after the Kano State Government approved a reconstitution of the club’s management board, part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s broader push to reposition Kano Pillars among Nigeria’s leading sporting destinations. Ogunmodede also currently serves as one of the assistant coaches to Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle.

For Kano Pillars — four-time NPFL champions who have struggled for consistency in recent seasons — the appointment signals renewed ambition to return to the top of Nigerian football as preseason preparations get underway.
