The Super Eagles of Nigeria have commenced preparations ahead of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 qualifying match with Sierra Leone.
The players had their first training session at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos with most of the invited players present including the players from the Nigeria Professional Football League who took part in the just-concluded playoffs held at the same venue.
The Super Eagles are set to take on the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone on Sunday, June 18 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.
Many players have arrived at the Super Eagles camp as the camp is almost full with ballers like William Troost-Ekong, Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, Taiwo Awoniyi, Joe Aribo, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Kevin Akpoguma, Kenneth Omeruo, Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Adeleye, Victor Sochima, Ebube Duru, Ojo, Samuel, Divine Nwachukwu, Frank Onyeka, Ahmed Musa and Zaidu Sanusi.
Super Eagles currently top Group A of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers with 9 points from four matches while Sierra Leone are in third place with five points from the same number of games.
Guinea-Bissau are second with seven points while Sao Tome and Principe are last with one point.
AFCON 2023 will take place in Ivory Coast from January 13 2024 to February 11.
