AFCON 2021: The secret behind our victories so far - Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi 2

Alex Iwobi has revealed the important factor responsible for the victories the team has had at ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

According to the midfielder, the Super Eagles under interim coach, Austin Eguavoen has made the team more like a family.

The Super Eagles were the only team that recorded 9 points in their group stage matches in the competition.

“I’m not too sure anything has changed playing under Eguavoen, but I feel the team is hungrier under him now,” the Everton forward told PUNCH Sports Extra.

“We are more of a family now on and off the pitch. We are one big family now.”

Alex Iwobi got his first start in the competition in the final group game against Guinea Bissau.

*We are all happy to have won our three opening games,” Iwobi continued.

“These victories show that we are ready for any opponent and it is a good signal we are sending out there to any team that wants to play Nigeria. We are doing well and we need to keep the consistency.

We want to beat the best to win the AFCON and we are not getting carried away with these wins.

“We still have to remain focus and humble there are still more tough games to be played and we will keep doing our country proud.

The former Arsenal forward also promised to give his best to the team despite not playing in his favourite No.10 role in the team.

“The No.10 role is my favourite position, however, I’m happy to play in any position the coach wants me to play in.

“I will give my best to the team. I don’t really mind playing out on the wings.”

The Super Eagles will take on Tunisia in the Round of 16 on Sunday.
