AFCON Update: Victor Osimhen, Dennis, two other Super Eagles players out of Nations Cup!

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will be without some of their key players ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon which is billed to start on the 9th of next month. 

Victor Osimhen, who recently returned from a check bone injury, tested positive to COVID-19 on Wednesday. 

Rangers defender Leon Balogun according to reports has also pulled out of the tournament due to injury. 

While Shehu Abdullahi won’t be at the competition due to injury as well, Watford’s striker, Emmanuel Dennis absence as at the time of filing this report is unclear.

Rumor suggests that his invitation to the competition was sent to Watford late. 

Four new players have now been invited to replace the four players. They include:

  • Peter Olayinka (Slavia Prague, Czech Republic)
  • Henry Onyekuru (Olympiacos, Greece)
  • Tyronne Ebuehi (Venezia, Italy)
  • Semi Ajayi (Westbrom, England) 

Players have started arriving at the Abuja camp of the Super Eagles. 

Taiwo Awoniyi, John Noble, Daniel Akpeyi, Olisa Ndah, Sadiq Umar, and Chidera Ejuke are six players in camp as of Friday morning.
