At last, Jose Peseiro has gotten his first victory as Super Eagles manager after losing his fist two matches.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated the Leone Stars of Sierra-Leone 2-1 to begin their quest to qualify for AFCON 2023 on a winning note.
Jose Peseiro’s men had to come from a goal down to secure victory against the resolute Loene Stars at the Moshood Abiola Stadium.
Jonathan Morsay gave the away d8de the lead early in the first half via a brilliant header from a cross via the left flank.
However, their lead was short-lived as Alexander Ieobi restored parity about five minutes later.
The Super Eagles should have taken the lead before the away side scored but Victor Osimhen’s header from Calvin Bassey’s cross came off the crossbar. However, the Napoli forward was in the right place as he smashed the ball from Simon Moses header into the net to give the team the lead.
Samuel Chukwueze could have increased the lead by a goal or two in the second half but the winger failed to convert his chances.
The Super Eagles held on to the lead to the end as they endured the terrible Moshood Abiola National Stadium pitch.
The victory means that Jose Peseiro has now won his first game as the new Super Eagkes manager after he suffered defeats in his first two games against Mexico and Ecaudor previously.
The team will now take on Sao Tome and Principe in their next match on Monday 13th June.
