Nigeria’s female basketball team, DTigress began their title defense with a low-scoring but convincing win over Mozambique at the time Multipurpose Sports Complex in Yaounde.
D’Tigress, despite losing the first two quarters (11-12, 18-21) blew out the Mozambique ladies by 17 points as the game ended 67-50 points.
Point Guard, Ezinne Kalu finished as the top scorer with 17 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists while team captain Adaora Elonu had 13 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists.
Chizane and Seda led with 12 points each for Mozambique as they suffered their fourth consecutive loss against DTigress and fifth in their last five matches.
The win against Mozambique is DTigress’ first since they crashed out of the first round of the basketball event at the recently-concluded Tokyo Olympics after losing all their group stage matches.
The team will take on former champions, Angola on Monday in their second group match.
