Again! Gernot Rohr seals AFCON ticket for Super Eagles with two games to spare
The Super Eagles of Nigeria are through to the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to take place next January in Cameroon.
The Super Eagles are just about to face the Squirrels of Benin Republic in their fifth group stage game.
The Super Eagles qualified without playing their fifth game in the group.
This is because in the other group game Lesotho were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Sierra Leone in the early kickoff.
The result means that the Super Eagles of Nigeria booked qualification for the tournament in Cameroon.
Nigeria has eight points from four games, Benin with seven points from four games while third-placed Sierra Leone now has four points from five games.
The result means that the Super Eagles have already booked one ticket to the 2022 AFCONN with the other yet to be decided.
They finished in third place in the edition in Egypt will feature in the continental competition for the 19th time, become the 17th country to qualify for Cameroon 2021 finals, and are three-time winners in (1980, 1994, and 2014).
The game against the Benin Republic today and against Lesotho next week will be a formality.
