Super Eagles duo of Ademola Lookaman and William Troost-Ekong have been nominated for the 2024 CAF Player of the Year Award.
Ademola Lookman and captain of the national team William Troost-Ekong are among a shorlist of 10 players for the prestigious price.
The list of nominees was published on the official X page of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Thursday.
Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman is considered favorite to win the price after a stellar individual performance for the club as well as the national team in the year under review.
Lookman helped the Super Eagles of Nigeria reach second place at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire early this year.
The Super Eagles forward scored 3 goals and provided 1 assist in 7 matches as the team finished second to champions Cote D’Ivoire.
The 27-year-old scored 17 goals and 13 asisists in 45 matches for Atalanta last season.
He also put up a fantastic performance in the Europa League final where he bagged a hattrick – the first player to do so in the history of the competition.
His hattrick gave Atlanta their first-ever European title as they thrashed Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the final.
William Troost-Ekong on the hand had a fantastic tournament at the Africa Cup of Nations as he bagged the Most Valuable Player Award.
He also scored three goals in the competition – the highest by a defender in the history of the competition.
Troost-Ekong is also the highest scoring defender in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations with 5 goals.
Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen is the current recipient of the award which he won last year after leading Napoli to a history Serie A title – the club’s first in 33 years.
The 2024 CAF Awards ceremony is scheduled to hold in the city of Marrakech, Morocco on December 16, 2024.
