Gunmen believed to be armed bandits have reportedly kidnapped over 300 students from the Government Girls Secondary School in Jangebe, Talata Marafa Local Government Area of students.
Sources told BBC Hausa that the attack took place in the early hours of Friday morning.
The Commissioner for Information in the state, Homourable Suleiman Tunua also confirmed the incident. According to him, the attacked happened at about 1 a.m.
This latest attack in Zamfara comes a week after some students of Government Science College, Kagara, Niger State were kidnapped by armed men.
A school teacher and father to one of the kidnapped girls also confirmed the incident.
An eye witness that local vigilantes exchanged gunfire with the armed bamdits in an attempt to save the girls and according to him, rescue operation is ongoing.
