Catalan giants FC Barcelona have unveiled club legend, Xavi Hernandez as the club’s new manager following the departure of another legend, Ronald Koeman.
His appointment was announced in the early hours of Saturday, and he flew out of Doha a few hours later, before watching from afar as Barcelona squandered a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 at Celta Vigo.
He was presented to hundreds of fans at the Camp Nou stadium on Monday afternoon.
The midfielder returns to the club six years after he played his last game as a player. Xavi played 767 times for Barcelona, scored 85 goals and provided 185 assists.
On his return to the club, he said;
“I don’t want to get too emotional so I will just tell you one thing — we are the best club in the world,” Xavi told the crowd of around 10,000 fans.”
“And we will work to the highest standards to have success. We cannot accept defeats or draws, we have to win every game.”
Xavi’s return to Barcelona
The 41-year-old signed a three-year contract as he looks to return his boyhood club back to the glory days.
Previously, he played for Al Saad in the Qatari Stars League and also coached the side.
He led the side to three domestic titles including the league and the Qatar Cup.
