After decades of the absence of a recognised women’s football club competition in Africa, the Confederation of African football (CAF) is set to begin discussions on creating one soon.
The Executive Council of the body will discuss creating a CAF Women’s Champions League among other issues at the next executive meeting slated for the 30th of June, 2020.
There are over 35 countries running domestic football leagues across Africa already and that is a good starting point already.
It is expected that the likes of Nigeria, South Africa, Cameroun among other countries should produce clubs worthy of note when the competition starts given their reputation in Women’s football on the continent.
