The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been drawn in Group A of next year’s Africa Cup of Nations championship in Cote D’Ivoire.
Nigeria will take on host Cote D’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea Bissau in Group A of the tournament.
In an interesting twist during the draw, Senegal’s superstar, Sadio Mane who was assigned to pick the teams in Pot 2, paused for some moments after he failed to stir the balls in the pot before picking.
In his second attempt, the Al Nassr forward, did a little stir, picked the ball, opened it, removed the paper, looked at former Super Eagles captain , John Obi Mikel with a smile before revealing “Nigeria” to the crowd as they laughed out loud in the auditorium.
The three-time time Africa Cup of Nations champions will meet Cote D’Ivoire for the time since 2013 where they defeated the Elephants in the quater-finals of the competition in South Africa en route to wining it.
The Super Eagles will play their opening match at the newly built 60,000 capacity Alassane Ouattarra Stadium in Abidjan against Equatorial Guinea.
The 2023 edition of AFCON will hold between January 13th and February 11th 2024 across five different cities and cities stadia in the Weat African country.
