European Football governing body, UEFA has abolished the famous “away goal(s)” rule from all its club competitions as from the 2021/2022 football season.
This was contained in a statement published by the football body a few minutes ago.
The statement reads;
“Following the recommendation of the UEFA Club Competitions Committee and the UEFA Women’s Football Committee, the UEFA Executive Committee has today approved the proposal to remove the so-called away goals rule from all UEFA club competitions (men, women, and youth) as of the qualifying phases of the 2021/2022 competitions”
UEFA first introduced the rule in the 1965-1966 European Cup Winners Cup.
