Bukayo Saka, two other Nigerian-born players nominated for Golden Boy award
Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, Karim Adeyemi of RedBull Salzburg and Bayern Munich star Joshua Kirkzee are the players of Nigerian descent who have been nominated for this year’s edition of the Golden Boy award, according to Italian publication Tuttosport.
Bukayo Saka was excellent for the Gunners last season, playing 38 matches scoring three goals and registering nine assists.
Joshua Zirkzee played 12 games for Bayern and scored three goals.
Karim Adeyemi on the other hand was outstanding for Salzburg last season, playing 12 matches for the Austrian league Champions.
The Golden Boy is given by sports journalists to a young footballer playing in Europe perceived to have been the most impressive during a calendar year (two halves to two separate seasons). All nominees must be under the age of 21 and play in a European nation’s top tier.
Previous winners of the prestigious award include Lionel Messi, Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero. Portuguese youngster Joao Felix beat a lot of stars to win the award last yearin a field which had former Flying Eagles skipper Ikuowem Udo Utin and Borrussia Monchengladbach Keanan Bennetts included on a shortlist of 100 players.
