CAF breaks U-17 hearts, cancel 2021 cadet AFCON!
The hopes of a generation of budding footballers may have been dashed after the African Football Confederation (CAF) announced on Monday that the 2021 U17 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled for Morocco will no longer hold.
The Emergency Commission of the African Football Confederation (CAF) met in Rabat to study the different scenarios that could be proposed within the framework of the U17 African Nations Cup, which was slated for 13th to 30th March.
After the deliberations CAF governing finally decided to cancel the competition due to the pandemic in several African countries.
CAF also took into consideration the closing of the borders between Morocco and countries in the region, as well as the refusal of several European clubs to release their players to participate in this competition.
Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets had qualified for the competition after emerging runners-up behind Cote d’Ivoire at the WAFU qualifying tournament.
