OTD in 2015, Carli Lloyd scores hattrick as USA beat Japan 5-2 to win Women’s World Cup (video)
On July 5th, 2015 Carli Lloyd scored a hat-trick as the United States of America (USA) beat Japan 5-2 to win the Women’s World Cup.
It was a rematch for both sides as Japan beat the USA 3-1 on penalties at the 2011 Women’s World Cup.
Lloyd opened the scoring in the 3rd minute and she made it two in the 5th minute.
Lauren Holiday made it 3-0 in the 14th minute and Lloyd completed her hattrick in the 16th minute to give the USA a 4-0 lead in the 16th minute.
Yūki Nagasato pulled one back for Japan in the 27th minute as Japan trailed 4-1 at the halftime break.
Japan pulled within two goals when Julie Ertz scored an own goal to make the second half-interesting.
Tobin Heath made sure of the result responding in the 54th minute as the USA held on for the win.
It was revenge for the USA over Japan in front of 53,341 fans in attendance at the BC Place, Vancouver.
