On  June 26 2016 Chile beat Argentina 4-2 to win the Copa America Centenario.

Both teams met in the final of the 2015 Copa America final which Chile won on penalties in front of their home fans.

The 2016 edition a year later was to celebrate 100 years of the competition which started in 1916.

The encounter was just like the 2015 edition where Argentina dominated possession only for Chile to defend relentlessly as the game was goalless after 90 minutes, went to extra time and then penalties.

Argentina lost the last edition on penalties and they did again in heartbreaking fashion.

Captain Lionel Messi and Biglia missed for ASrgentina while Aguero and Mascherano scored.

Vidal missed for Chile but Castillo, Aránguiz, Beausejour and Silva all scored as Chile won back to back Copa America titles in front of 82,026 fans in attendance at the MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford United States of America.
