Super Eagles' striker Cyriel Dessers completes move to Panathinaikos

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has sealed a move to Greek side Panathinaikos as he continues his nomadic career in the sport. Dessers signed a three-year contract with the Greek Super League giants until 2028.

The Greek giant announced the signing of the 30-year-old striker on its X page on Monday.

Cyriel Dessers won the League Cup and finished as the Scottish Premiership’s top scorer last season with 18 goals in 35 matches.

The Super Eagles striker scored 52 goals in 117 appearances across all competitions during his two-year spell at the Rangers.

The Belgian-Nigerian striker becomes Panathinaikos’ tenth summer signing following the arrivals of Konstantinos Kotsaris, Georgios Kyriakopoulos, Renato Sanches, Alban Lafont, David Calabria, Pedro Chirivella, Milos Pantovic, Ahmed Touba, and Anass Zaroury.

Cyriel Dessers will wear the number 33 shirt in Athens as he begins a new chapter in his decade-long football career, having played for OH Leuven, Lokeren, NAC Breda, FC Utrecht, Heracles Almelo, Genk, Cremonese, and Rangers across the Belgian, Dutch, Italian, and Scottish Leagues.

Dessers is quite a prolific and reliable goalscorer, with 163 goals and 57 assists in 396 senior appearances across nine clubs.

Meanwhile, the 30-year-old striker, off the back of an impressive outing last season, will travel to Nigeria immediately to resume camp for Super Eagles’ crucial World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa later this week.
