Delta State has been selected to host the next edition of the National Sports Festival which is billed for 2022.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Sports and Youths Development, Mr. Sunday Dare who was represented by Nebeolisa Anako, Permanent Secretary of Sports Ministry during the closing ceremony yesterday.
Kaduna, Ogun, Ebonyi among a few other states submitted bids to host the next edition of the festival but the oil-rich state was picked ahead of others.
“Following the evaluation of the bids and the physical visitation to the prospective States, I hereby announce Delta State as the next host of the National Sports Festival in 2022.”
“Congratulations to Delta State for emerging the overall winner of the Games of the 2020 National sports Festival.”
“I’m glad to note that the Federal Government received bids to host the 21st edition of the National Sports Festival in 2022 from 6 states namely: Delta, Ebonyi, Imo, Kaduna, Kano, and Ogun.
I congratulate the government and people of Delta State for emerging the preferred State and wish them the best of luck in the organization of the 21st National Sports Festival.”
Delta State successfully defended the title they won in 2018 after they emerged as the best team with 158 gold, 116 silver, and 110 bronze medals.
Hosts, Edo State finished in second place with 341 medals: 129 gold, 104 silver, and 108 bronze medals.
Bayelsa got 169 medals made up of 56 gold, 55 silver, and 58 bronze medals.
Rivers State finished in
Lagos grabbed 32 Gold medals, 40 Silver medals, and 54 Bronze Medals as ended up fifth on the log.
