Despite scoring 33 goals last season, Paul Onuachu reveals why he is still at Genk!

fter a fantastic performance in the Jupiler Pro League last season, Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu claims he was ready for the big move, but the towering attacker was disappointed when no large offer came.

After earning the Ebony Shoe for his efforts for the Blue-White last season, Onuachu was voted Belgian Professional Footballer of the Year.

This season, the striker has put in a good showing for the club, netting 11 goals in all competitions for John van den Brom’s side.

The striker’s asking price of €20 million reportedly deterred several elite clubs from making a move for him, keeping him in the Belgian top division for another season.

In an interview with Voetbalprimeur, Onuachu stated that his success last season had prepared him for a huge step outside of Belgium.

“It was one of the most difficult periods of my life. All that stress… I felt ready for the big step, but no offer came,” Onuachu said.

“Was something going on behind my back? Was it the amount Genk had put on me? Honestly, I don’t know. Nobody understands. Corona, they tell me. Come on, I don’t believe that! I scored 33 goals: then you’re always gone, aren’t you? Anyway, it doesn’t bother me anymore. I let it go.”

The Nigerian international just extended his contract with Genk for another year, until the summer of 2024.
