
Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, have named their final 12-man roster for the FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers, with the squad set to depart for Tunisia ahead of Window 4 fixtures scheduled for August 27–30.
The squad features Jordan Ogudiran, Ike Nwamu, Caleb Agada, Chima Moneke, Josh Okogie, Stanley Okoye, Manny Obaseki, Chimezie Metu, Michael Efevberha, Ebuka Izundu, Efe Abogidi and Udoka Azuibuike.
Crvena Zvezda released Chima Moneke and Ebuka Izundu from EuroLeague duty to join the national team, boosting Nigeria’s frontcourt despite the Serbian club starting pre-season without several key players. Josh Okogie brings NBA experience from his Houston Rockets stint, while Chimezie Metu and Stanley Okoye continue to anchor the squad’s leadership.
Josh Okogie, who returned to the national team fold last year after almost five years away, headlines the roster’s NBA representation following his stint with the Houston Rockets. He is joined by former NBA forward Chimezie Metu, whose leadership and versatility have been a recurring feature of D’Tigers squads in recent windows, while veteran guard Stanley Okoye continues as one of the squad’s most experienced campaigners.
Nigeria will battle Cameroon, Cape Verde and South Sudan in the first phase of the second round of qualification as they push to strengthen their hopes for the 2027 FIBA World Cup. Head coach David Fizdale will lead the team into the window carrying momentum from previous wins over their over Tunisia, Rwanda and Guinea.
The 2027 FIBA World Cup will take place in Qatar – the first time in the Arab World, across four venues in three host cities. Germany are defending champions – their first-ever title after marking their debut in glory with an 83-77 win over Serbia.
