Europa League: Five things you need to know ahead of Sevilla v Manchester United United

Ninety minutes or more will decide which one of Sevilla or Manchester United will progress to the final of this seasons Europa League.

Both teams had a decent run en route to the semi-finals without losing a match. Sevilla saw off the of AS Roma and Wolverhampton while Machester United did enough to get past Austrian side LASK and Copenhagen in the second round and quarter-finals respectively.

It’s not the first time both teams will be meeting as the Spanish side earned a 2-1 victory over the Red Devils on the second round of the 2016/2017 Champions League at Seville after the first leg ended goalless.

Here are five things you need to know ahead of the match tonight

  • Manchester United are yet to lose on German soil in a competitive match in the last five years. Their last defeat was against Bayern Munich at Allianz Arena 2014, it ended 3-1
  • This will be the Red Devils’ fifth consecutive European semi-finals; 2008, 2009, 2011, 2017 and 2020 and they have progressed into finals in the previous four occasions with the Champions League victory in 2008 and Europa League victory in 2017.
  • Sevilla has played in three Europa League semi-finals and has gone ahead to win the tournament on all three occasions; 2014, 2015 and 2016.
  • The Spanish side has only met Manchester United twice in history, this will be the third time. The previous two ended in a draw and a victory for Sevilla in the 2016/2017 Champions League season.
  • Both Ole Gunnar Solksjaer and Julen Lopetegui will be playing in their first-ever European club competition semi-finals.
