Nigeria’s Falconets edged Poland 1-0 in their latest pre-World Cup friendly, with Mamudu Mary settling the contest through a stoppage-time strike right before half-time.
Having taken the lead late in the opening period, the Nigerian side showed the discipline to defend their slender advantage throughout the second half, closing out a hard-fought win over their hosts.
The fixture forms part of the final leg of Nigeria’s build-up to the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, set to run in Poland from September 5 to 27. The Falconets touched down in the country earlier in the week and have been intensifying their training ever since.
A two-time runner-up at this level, Nigeria has been drawn in Group F alongside Spain, China PR and New Caledonia, and this win gives the squad fresh momentum heading into the tournament’s closing preparations.
Next up for Moses Aduku’s side is a friendly against South Korea on September 1 at the Remes Resort & Spa Football Stadium, the last test before the group stage begins.
