Family, Osun TAMPAN reacts to Murphy Afolabi’s death

The family of late Nollywood actor, Murphy Afolabi has confirmed and also reacted to the loss of their son. Murphy Afolabi died after he slipped in the bathroom of his residence in Ikorodu on Sunday morning. His death comes less than 24 hours after the death of veteran actor Saint Obi.

Mr. Yusuf Lateef, the family head of Murphy Afolabi’s compound in Oshogbo said the 49-year-old actor was rushed to the hospital immediately but was pronounced dead afterward, He added that the news of his death was received with shock and has put everyone in the family in a mourning mood.

“Initially we were planning to have him buried here, in Osogbo but his children insisted that he should be buried in Lagos, where he resides with his family.

“As his family in Osogbo, we have been meeting and making plans concerning his burial and we will be sending representatives to Lagos this morning. (today),” he said.

He confirmed that the actor who acted in a handful of movies will be buried later today.

The chairman of Theater Acts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Osun State chapter, Alhaji Murufudeen Lawal, who was present at Murphy Afolabi’s family home in Oshogbo stated the actor’s death was a huge blow to the Yoruba cinema industry during his condolence visit to the family.

Lawal stated that the late actor had made significant contributions to the evolution of the Yoruba film industry and that the void left by his passing would be difficult to fill.

He expressed his condolences to the actor’s family, friends, and fans, urging them to find peace in the truth that life is fleeting and that all that happens in life is according to God’s will.

Murphy Afolabi was born on May 5, 1974. He clocked 49 years old in 2023. He is survived by his wife and three children: two boys, and one girl named Afolabi Olamilekan, Afolabi Fathia Moyosore, and Okikiola Afolabi.
