FIFA clears German player of Nigerian descent, Kevin Akpoguma to play for the Super Eagles after switching allegiance!

World football governing body FIFA has officially cleared Kevin Akpoguma to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria after he switched allegiance last month.

This was further confirmed by the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick in a post via his verified Twitter page on Monday night.

His tweet reads;

…I’m extremely happy to announce that @FIFAcom has just granted Hoffenheim defender and former German U-20 national team skipper Kevin Ufuoma Akpoguma permission to make his switch to Nigeria with immediate effect.

Kevin Akpoguma was born in Germany to a Nigerian father and a German mother in 1995 in a town called Neustadt an der Weinstraße.

He featured for the German youth set up and he was the captain of the team that won the European U-19 Championship for Germany in 2014.

He currently plays for Hoffenheim in the German Bundesliga and he has featured three times so far this season with over 270 minutes of fame time.

Akpoguma made his intention known about playing for the Super Eagles after meeting with coach Gernot Rohr who shared his vision for the team with him.

The 6ft tall central defender will make the central defense position more competitive and also his inclusion in the team will provide more options to the center back paring of Williams Troost-Ekoong and Semi Ajayi which the coach has used repeatedly in recent times

Kevin Akpoguma is currently with the team in Austria not an invitee but a guest as he looks to bond with the team ahead of the friendlies against Algeria and Tunisia on the 9th and 13th of October respectively.
