Flying Eagles begin Under-20 AFCON with narrow winNigeria’s Flying Eagles started their 2025 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations with a slim win over Tunisia on Thursday.

Midfielder Auwal Ibrahim scored the only goal of the game in the first half as the Flying Eagles started their chase for a 8th title on the continentom a good note.

Coach Aliyu Zubairu’s boys started the game on quite positive note with star striker Kparobo Arierhi posing threats in the early stages.

The Flying Eagles took the lead in the 38th minute via a wonderful movements and passes in and around the edge of the box.

Auwal Ibrahim with a dashing run got to the end of Odinaka Okoro’s sleek pass before putting the ball in between the keeper’s legs to put Nigeria ahead.

The first half ended with seven-time champions in control of the match as the North Africans looked out of sort.

However, the introduction of PSG forward Zayon Chtai-Telamio, Anis Doubal, and Elyes Dhaoui gave the Tunisians a fair grip of the game.

Chtai-Telamio came close to giving Tunisia the equaliser as a my nice pass fell to him in the box but his shot lacked power and precision as Ebenezer Harcourt made a save.

The Flying Eagles won a penalty with 15 minutes left om the clock, but the referee, after awarding the spot kick, overrruled it after a VAR intervention.

Flying Eagles held on to their lead and secured maximum points in the Group B opener of the competition.

Nigeria will play Morocco on Sunday in their second group match.
