Nigeria’s Flying Eagles secured their place in the semi-finals of the WAFU B U-20 Championship after a comfortable 3-0 win over Togo’s Sparrow Hawks in Yamoussoukro on Thursday.
The result also confirmed Togo’s elimination from the tournament, following their earlier 3-1 loss to Burkina Faso.
Togo held firm for most of the first half and almost broke the deadlock in the 38th minute, but the effort went wide. Both sides went into the break scoreless.
Nigeria came out sharper after halftime. Muiz Adeleke put the Flying Eagles ahead a minute into the second half, then doubled his tally in the 59th minute after rounding the goalkeeper on a swift counter, securing his fourth goal of the tournament.
Substitute Abdoulaye Agbejoye completed the rout five minutes from time, scoring shortly after coming off the bench.
The win keeps Nigeria on course for the 2027 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana. The Flying Eagles top Group B on six points and face Burkina Faso’s Young Stallions on Sunday to close out the group stage.
