The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will face defending Champions Senegal in one of the quarter-final fixtures of the ongoing Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Senegal qualified for the last eight of the competition as the second-placed team behind Ghana in Group C with four points. The young Terenga Lions played a one-all draw in their opening match against the Central African Republic but lost to Ghana in their second match.
However, Senegal qualified for the quarter-final with a 2-0 win over DR Congo. An early goal from Tidiane Thiam and a late penalty from Ibrahim Dieng secured the win for the West Africans.
The Flying Eagles won against Tunisia and played two consecutive draws against Morocco and Kenya to progress to the final eight of the competition.
Nigeria, the seven-time champions, will take on Senegal on Monday, May 12, for a place in the semi-finals, which will see them book their spot for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Chile later this year.
Coach Aliyu Zubairu’s boys will look to continue their charge to qualify for the World Cup and secure their eighth title against the Senegalese in an all-West African showdown.
