Former La Liga champions Deportivo La Coruna relegated to third-tier of Spanish league

Another sad chapter in the story of Deportivo La Coruna was written when the club fell into further ignominy by being relegated to the thord division after the conclusion of Segunda Liga games on Monday night.

The club that reached the semi-final of the Champions League in 2004 are now out of the professional league system.

After Deportivo’s relegation, club president Fernando Vidal insists that the last match day must be replayed because his club is yet to play their final game due to Corona outbreak at Fuenlabrada, the opponents they were supposed to face on Monday.

The rest of the games were played at the same time and due to their results La Coruna were mathematically relegated regardless of the result of their last game.

Vidal maintains that playing every game except one was a ‘total adulteration of the competition’ and urges a replay of all the games.He had already made a complaint to La liga and the Spanish Football Federation and, if necessary, he claims he’ll go to the highest authority to the get justice.

Deportivo who were one of the best clubs in Spain in the 1990s and 2000s, won La liga in 1999/2000 and even played in the UCL semi-final in 2004, have not been in the Spanish third-tier for 39 years.
