Gernot Rohr: Why Eagles drew 4-4 with Sierra Leone

On Friday, November 13th the Super Eagles of Nigeria were held to a 4-4 draw by the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone.

It was a matchday three group qualifier for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations Cup (AFCON) played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

The result was a draw and not a loss but Nigerians were heavily critical of the team’s performance.

Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr has explained why his team allowed the Leone Stars to come back and earn a point leading 4-1 at the halftime break.

Rohr made his thoughts known in an interview on the official Super Eagles youtube channel.

Here are the reasons listed by Rohr for the draw.

He said that it is understandable that Nigerians were critical and the result is unacceptable.

He stated that he and his technical crew are analyzing the game.

He then stated that they had a bad preparation going into the game.

He also stated that the players arrived late till camp and some even arrived just a day before the game.

He stated that the full team just had only one training session before the game.

He revealed that the come back by Sierra Leone was possible because the Super Eagles physically and mentally lost energy

He also stated that the young players in the team are not strong enough
