The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have been knocked out of the 2023 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) by Burkina Faso in the quarter-final stage and will consequently miss the FIFA Under-17 World Cup later this year.

The U-17 Burkina Faso team defeated the Golden Eaglets 2-1 on Thursday, May 11 at the Nelson Mandela Stadium.

Aboubacar Camara bagged a brace for Burkina Faso while Idris Abdullahi scored Nigeria’s only goal.

With the loss the Golden Eaglets will not play at the 2023 U-17 FIFA World Cup as only the top four teams in the U-17 AFCON will qualify.

Burkina Faso will play Senegal in the semi-final on May 14 at the Mohammed Hamlaoui Stadium.

The 2023 U-17 FIFA World Cup will hold from November 10 to December 2.
