He’s always working hard! – Union Berlin manager lauds Taiwo Awoniyi’s brilliant start to the season!

Fischer Urs, the manager of Union Berlin, has expressed his satisfaction with Taiwo Awoniyi’s play this season.

On Saturday, Taiwo Awoniyi came on as a 65-minute substitute in Union Berlin’s 2-5 home loss to Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich. It was their first loss at home in 29 games.

Fischer Urs said; “Awoniyi is always working hard to improve on his skills, and also find ways to score more goals during the week.”

This season, the former Liverpool striker has scored 10 goals in all competitions for the Berlin side. With seven in the Bundesliga, one in the German Cup, and two in the Uefa Europa Conference League, they are a force to be reckoned with. Behind Robert Lewandowski, Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland, and Karim Benzema, he is one of Europe’s top five goal scorers.

“I think strikers are important because they have to score goals. A lot of things are coming together at the moment for the club and that feels good.” Fischer said.

“It’s normal in football that when you begin to make a name for yourself, bigger teams will come knocking at the door.”

“I am very happy for the players when they can get to the next level, but it also doesn’t help me as a coach when good players leaves but that’s sadly football.”

The manager, who has led ‘The Iron Ones’ to four victories, four draws, and two loses in ten Bundesliga games this season, feels Awoniyi is content, and concedes that bigger teams are likely to come knocking on Union Berlin’s door in search of the 24-year-old striker.

On Thursday, Union Berlin will face Feyenoord in a rematch of their Uefa Europa Conference League match. The visitors’ only goal came from Awoniyi in the first leg, which concluded 3-1 in the Netherlands.
