Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney witnessed a dramatic end to the final day of the Championship season as he helped Derby survive relegation by a point.
The Rams knew they had a mountain to climb after going 2 nil down to Sheffield Wednesday at halftime who were already relegated.
However, Martyn Waghorn’s late penalty secured a point for Wayne Rooney’s Derby County which was just enough to keep them in the Championship for another season.
After a dramatic three-all draw at Pride’s Park, Wayne Rooney said he has what it takes to take the Rams back to the Premier League.
“This season on the pitch, off the pitch has been crazy.”
This club can’t allow ourselves to be in this position.
“I am very confident in my ability and I can help get this club back to where it belongs.
“I am loving it. I remember when I took the job, I had a few friends call me up saying: ‘are you sure?’
“They said: ‘do you know what you are getting yourself into, especially the position we were in.”
