“I Was Paid N75,000 As Goalkeeper Trainer”- Former Olympian Vanzekin Calls Out Bendel Insurance Over Poor Treatment!

Former Flying Eagles of Nigeria goalkeeper, Ambrose Vanzekin has called out Nigeria Premier Football League side Bendel Insurance over poor treatment as the fomer goalkeeper trainer of the team.

Vanzekin, a member of Nigeria’s football team that won silver at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 accused the management of Bendel Insurance of paying him a meagre salary of N75,000 monthly.

The former under-20 national team goalkeeper also accused the club of being poorly run as it is being managed by the elder sister to the wife of the former deputy governor of the state.

He added that the club is being run as a family business and most of the staff at club are suffering the same fate.

“They are doing family business with Bendel insurance, giving the team chairman to someone that doesn’t know anything about football. Many players are being paid almost half a million while me as a goalkeepers trainer is being paid ₦75,000 monthly”

Ambrose Vanzekin made these remarks about Bendel Insurance’s management in a video obtained on social media after he turned in resignation letter on September 4.

The Olympian corroborated the story on Wednesday morning on Sportszone, a sports show on LagosTalks91.3.

According to him, his salary was latee raised to N215,000 after earning N75,000 for a long period of time. He revealed that he wasn’t given an official contract upon request.

He also added that he was only allowed to go on one away match in the league during his four year stay at the club thereby denying him bonuses and allowances.

Ambrose Vanzekin represented Nigeria at the under-17, under-20 and under-22 levels where he win silver at the 2005 World Youth Championship in Netherlands and the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.
