Mercy Akide-Udoh and Daniel Amokachi, both Nigerian football superstars, have been appointed to the International Football Association Board’s football advisory group, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
On Monday, IFAB announced the news on Twitter.
The only Africans on the panel are the two of them.
Kay Cossington, the English Football Association’s head of women’s technical development, Jillian Ellis, the President of San Diego and Maxwell Scherrer, the assistant sports director of Paris Saint-Germain, are among the others nominated.
Arsène Wenger, the former Arsenal manager and FIFA’s chief of global football development, and Arsenal ladies goalkeeper Lydia Williams are among the others.
They will all be present via video conference at the IFAB’s upcoming meeting of the football and technical advisory panels on October 27.
Amokachi, 48, was a member of the Super Eagles team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994 and competed in two World Cups.
Amokachi formerly worked as an assistant coach for former Super Eagles coaches Stephen Keshi (2011-15), Shaibu Amodu (2008-10) and Austin Eguavoen (2008-2010). (2005-2007).
He also coached JS Hercules in Finland’s second division.
In 1998, 2000, and 2002, Akide-Udoh played in three Women’s World Cups and helped the Super Falcons win three African Women Cup of Nations titles.
