Iheanacho Scores Late Winner As Super Eagles Qualify For AFCON 2023

Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho Scored A last gasp winner for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a win over Sierra Leone to qualify for Afcon 2023.

The Nigerian team edged the Leone Stars 3-2 on Sunday, June 18 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.

Italian Serie A golden boot winner Victor Osimhen scored the first goal of the match for Nigeria in the 19th minute from a Kenneth Omeruo assist.

Osimhen doubled the Super Eagles lead in the 32nd minute this time from a Joe Aribo assist.

However Mohammed Bundu pulled one back for Sierra Leone nine minutes later.

Kelechi Iheanacho was substituted in for Samuel Chukwueze and Kevin Akpoguma was subbed in for Bright-Osayi Samuel in the second half.

Augustus Kargbo levelled the scores for the Leone Stars in the 84th minute with a goal.

Iheanacho scored the winning goal in the 95th minute to give Nigeria a 3-2 victory.

The Super Eagles are first place in Group A with 12 points from five matches while Sierra Leone are third with five points after the same number of games.

Guinea-Bissau are second with 10 points from five games and Sao Tome and Principe are in last position with one point from the same number of fixtures.

Nigeria will take on Sao Tome and Principe next on September 4 in a yet to be confirmed venue.

AFCON 2023 will take place in Cote D’Ivoire from January 24 to February 11.
